We are in a time of radical technological and social transformation. The industrial age is ending and we can start to see outlines of the systems replacing it.

According to the Global Scenario Group, an environmental organization that specializes in scenario analysis and forecasting our world is shifting into the planetary phase of civilization. Proponents state that increasing global interdependence and risks, such as climate change, are binding the world into a unitary socio-ecological system. This unprecedented condition signals a historic shift from the period of modernity, characterized by sovereign states, the perennial growth of population and economies, abundant resources, and disregard for environmental impacts.

The Planetary Phase has many manifestations: economic globalization, biospheric destabilization, mass migration, new global institutions (like the United Nations and the World Trade Organization), the Internet, new forms of transboundary conflict, and shifts in culture and consciousness.

We if the ledger could be given a purpose. What if we looked at the ledger not as only a historic reference but with a visionary pretext -  What if we focused on creating a richer ledger by introducing more sources of information?

What if we thought of ourselves not as the owners of this information but as custodians,  transient carriers, undertakers.

Initially, the notion of a goal driven organization would be user-driven, as an organization SFC would be responsible for offering suitable targets for the ledger. While the notion of a global good is problematic, topics would focus on food quality, environmental and social impact to reflect SFC values as an organization.

Once an intent is selected for the ledger every interaction may be compared to a series of parallel options, if one of these options allows the ledger to move closer to its goal it will be offered up to the user. Over time by selecting these behaviors the users (systems) behavior may be modified and the ledger moves closer to its target.

As the system develops and learns suggestions may be offered by the ledger and not users themselves. A goal driven ledger.

Connected Framework

The Connected Framework based on Smart Contract technology is the Intellegent Living Charter informing the ethics, intent and purpose of the industry.

The DAI offers stakeholders governance, advanced collaboration and decision making tools, and open standards for innovation; designed as a seamless twenty-first-century intelligent infrastructure at a global industry scale. The DAI will connect local fisheries, communities, and regional ecosystem development programs with the Internet of Things (IoT) to scale to global traceability of seafood quality.

Stakeholders, research institutions, and consumers will be able to access a comprehensive system as a gateway to the IoT. Users have access to Big Data and analytics to develop predictive algorithms that can increase productivity and reduce the marginal cost of producing and delivering a full range of products and services.

The DAI provides a model for how various industries can better self-regulate for the benefit of their consumers and the environment.
